A.C.E. Building Service Announces Retirement of Former Owners Bill Shimek and Stan Johnson

A.C.E. Building Service announced the retirement of former owners Bill Shimek and Stan Johnson. The announcement follows the fulfillment of a succession plan that was initiated in 2019 and included the transfer of ownership in 2021 to Chris Herzog, Stuart Johnson, Carolyn Hoffmann, and Max Maigatter.

“For more than 20 years, Bill and Stan’s leadership helped propel A.C.E. Building Service to an extraordinary level in our design-build contracting services while completing some amazing projects in Northeastern Wisconsin,” said Chris Herzog, president of A.C.E. Building Service. “Their expertise and commitment to the industry helped lead to transformational change for our organization and the establishment of key partnerships that have helped frame the business we are today. We are grateful for their dedication and guidance over the years and wish them well in their next adventures in retirement.”

Stan Johnson joined A.C.E. Building Service in 2000 as an Estimator/Project Manager and became President in 2006. In 2021, Johnson shifted focus from his role as President to Project Management and Training Coordinator while remaining Chairman of the Board. With more than 40 years of business experience in manufacturing and construction, Johnson has also managed project operations at Procter & Gamble in Illinois and Ohio and at Northern Labs in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Bill Shimek joined A.C.E. Building Service as a journeyman mason followed by Site Foreman. Shimek became Vice President in 2006 and, in later years, managed all project activities, including preliminary planning, scheduling, coordination of construction activity, project closeout, and owner-occupancy. He also led the direction for all project field personnel and coordinated and managed subcontractors on the jobsite. With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Shimek concluded his career with A.C.E. Building Service focused on their special projects division.

Herzog added, “Since joining our company, Bill and Stan’s progressive leadership has garnered much recognition for construction excellence, including recognition of completed projects, company acquisitions, a robust safety program, and notable partnerships such as our alignment with Butler Manufacturing, all of which help us deliver top-tier results for our commercial and industrial clients.”

Following the retirement of Johnson and Shimek, A.C.E. Building Service’s new leadership team will continue to focus on the continuous improvement and evolution of the organization. “We are fourth-generation owners of this company and will continue to focus on growth in all areas of A.C.E., just as the previous owners did,” said Herzog. “Although we look much different than we did ten, fifteen, or thirty years ago, we embrace what got us here today: we surround ourselves with quality people, excellent partnerships, and clients that invite us to be a part of their team - not just a builder.”
