Lakeshore Technical College

The Manitowoc campus for Lakeshore Technical College was ready for a change. This change meant relocating its campus from the Dewey Street location to downtown Manitowoc as a building renovation. Moving the location would mean creating better access to classes and continuing the efforts to elevate the downtown area.

Not only was this a big move for Lakeshore Technical College, but it was also incredibly important for the City of Manitowoc. There were a few challenges that A.C.E. Building Service overcame using our design-build experience, and the end result certainly proved to be a rewarding and appreciated project.

The project had a very compressed timeline, with a construction start date in late January and a completion deadline of mid-May. This required close communication and teamwork between all parties involved.

Some unique features from this project include positioning the new classroom walls in a manner to keep all of the exterior windows in their existing locations, maximizing ceiling heights with a low structural framework, and appropriate finish selections for the intended use. For example, the suspended ceiling materials chosen for this project have a high Sound Transmission Coefficient, or STC, rating — which means the effect of echo or keyboard noise in the classrooms is reduced.
