The Apprentice of the Year Award is presented to the ABC of Wisconsin apprentice who exhibits the highest level of commitment to apprenticeship training.

We are excited to congratulate Jameson Free for winning ABC of Wisconsin's Apprentice of the Year award! Jameson is a team player who is always willing to lend a helping hand and leads by example. This award is extremely well-deserved, and from all of us at A.C.E., we want to say congratulations!

Jameson was nominated by his instructor, Gary Roehrig, who believes that Jameson has gone above and beyond what a typical apprentice does to complete the program's requirements. With the nomination, Jameson was invited to an interview with the critiquing panel. With the nomination, a great interview, and a very strong track record for his apprenticeship, the committee decided that Jameson would be the 2020 Apprentice of the Year.

Olivia Schulte, an Apprenticeship Manager for ABC of Wisconsin, reached out to Jameson online to give him the good news and interview him about his win. You can watch the interview below.

Jameson offered the following advice to new apprentices entering the program:

"One of my colleagues at A.C.E. told me one great piece of advice: keep your mouth shut and your ears open. That’s all you can do. Just listen to the guys, listen to their stories and all the things they have been through because that does help. All of that experience is more golden than anything you can read in the books.”

Jameson also wanted to give a shout out to Mark Backhaus and Max Maigatter at A.C.E. Building Service, as well as Gary, his instructor.

“Without Mark and Max, I probably wouldn’t have got the apprenticeship. They stuck their necks out for me. And then when I got in the apprenticeship program, it was very beneficial to have a guy like Gary around.”

It’s individuals like Jameson that make a difference out in the field and we're proud to have him, and many others like him, as part of the A.C.E. team. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him!
